Excerpt from Kara no Kyoukai:

“What does a view from a high place remind you of? The impulse you feel when you look down at the world you live in. A violent cognition that attacks you even if you refuse it. An emotion created by an overlooking view. That’s ‘far’.

You must be one of your generation’s idiots.” KID1: “She seems like the shy type, but she got this far.” KID3: “Nobody’s around, so it’s no use screaming for help. If you can’t prove something happened here, then you must have really fucked up somewhere.” KID2: “What do we do? Do we fuck her up?” KID3: “I don’t see a problem with that.”

KID3: "Are you that stupid, miss? Do you see anyone else around here? This girl's stink makes me want to hurl."
KID3: “It’s still too early for that. Besides, we’ll just get Riru in serious trouble!”

KID1: "Hey, lemme do it! I can take her!"
KID1: “Ugh! AGAIN with Riru! Why does every single thing go straight to Riru!? She’s not even here, for Pete’s sake!”

KID3: “I stand by my point. Don’t forget whose side you’re on this time.”

KID2: "We're about to put this girl through a world of hurt, aren't we? Well, I guess I'm cool with it."
KID2: “Knock it off, Rukawa! She’s listening to everything we’re saying! Careful with the words you use!”

LET’S TALK TO KID#1

409

MIKA: …ねぇ, さっき言われてた事ってさ (Nee, sakki iwareteta koto tte sa)
…Hey. About what you said earlier?

409
“You’re still hanging around here? You wanna fight me or something? Put your fists up, lady! Come on!”

MIKA: ……バカ (Baka)
やめたほうがいいよ (Yameta hou ga ii yo)
柔術習っているから (Juujutsu naratteiru kara)
メチャクチャ強いよ, あたし (mechakucha tsuyoi yo, atashi)
……You dummy.
I’m not going to pick a fight with you, you hear me?
I take lessons in jujitsu
so I’d lay you flat on the pavement in mere seconds!

409
“Uh…err…well, I was just kidding, lady, chill! L-let’s not start anything, OK?”

MIKA: …ガキが調子に乗らないの! (Gaki ga choushi ni noranai no)
そういうこと言ってると (Sou iu koto itteru to)
マウント取って, ボコボコにしちゃうけど (MAUNTO totte, bokoboko ni shichau kedo)
…いい? (Ii)
Don’t get smart with me, punk!
If you make me come after you,
I’ll sit on your chest and poke holes in your face with my fists!
Got that?

409
“Th-that’s fine, lady. I’m kinda busy here anyway.”

MIKA: …ねぇ, 教えてよ (Nee, oshiete yo)

MIKA: 急に黙って… (Kyuu ni damatte)

Why so quiet all of a sudden?
You seem scared about something.

“Scared? Me? Fuck you!”

MIKA: リルだっけ? (Riru dakke)
…女の子の名前でしょ? (Onna no ko no namae desho)
動揺してるね (Douyou shiteru ne)
Is it Riru?
…That’s a girl’s name, right?
You seemed upset about her.

409
“Quit fucking around!! God! Just shut up about all of it!”

MIKA: …好きなの? そのコの事? (Suki na no Sono ko no koto)
そんな感じぽいね (Sonna kanji poi ne)
…You like her, don’t you?
It’s kind of obvious.

409
“You’re getting the wrong idea! She’s just…just difficult to disobey. That’s all.”

MIKA: …どうして? (Doushite)

How come she has so much power over all of you?
Doesn’t that girl…

409
“I wouldn’t know either, or when it started. But…I was still a kid when she came around.”

MIKA: …それって, 自殺と関係あるの? (Sore tte, jisatsu to kankei aru no)

LET’S TALK TO KID#2

412

MIKA: …キミ, もうすこし話聞かせてくれない? (Kimi, mou sukoshi hanashi kikasete kure nai)
いまいち, 意味わかんなくてさ (Imaichi, imi wakan nakute sa)
…Hey, can we talk again?
Still have no idea what’s going on.

(And this is where I will end it. Let’s just say someone really really REALLY needs to pick this game up as a full-on translation project.)

——————————————————————————————————————–
TRANSLATOR’S NOTES:
(1) It’s absolutely rude to refer to your upperclassmen, siblings, and teachers without any honorifics attached to their names. Kids are a lot more cute about it. I dare you to use rude language as a tourist.
(2) The unspoken truth in videogames: girls have periods.
(3) PHS: Personal Handyphone System. Used in Japan, comes in the form of cordless phones and quite different from mobile phones. PHS has been deployed in Japan since mid-1990’s. Today, PHS is considered as a low-cost data communication service in Japan.
(4) Mika’s probably recalling her past experience with dirty old men. Like that one guy in the prologue.
(5) Interesting Fact: The word “ピッチ” also happens to be both an abbreviation and a colloquial of the PHS.
(6) I actually went to a lot of ends to make this statement poetic because it is. Oh, and Mika’s won the argument.

Hmmm, I see to be having less trouble translating the audio. The more I hear of it anyway. Or at least if the dialogue has anything to do with the current events. The other previous chapters could undergo some serious editing if that’s the case. Prologue is a challenge, esp. with Aramata and the flashbacks. Also, old people talking is hard to interpret. LOL

I’LL GIVE YOU GUYS TWO GUESSES WHO WAS ON ‘REDIAL’. MINUS ONE GUESS.

People, I’m not going to lie. I hate kids in fiction who act creepy and murderous, and intend to do away with the latter 100%. I HATE THEM.

21 thoughts on “6. FLOATING INDUCTION (浮誘)”

  1. I’m so glad you got back to this translation! I loved every chapter so far. Can’t wait to see what comes next. Keep up the good job!

  2. so happy to see more translations!!! the work you’re putting in really is amazing, and i’m glad to see such an intriguing game become more accessible 🙂 thank you so much !

    1. Thanks for the comment! I’m so glad people take interest in Suda51’s early games, that’s where the meat of his Lynchian genius emerges. 🙂

    2. Didn’t know you continued with the translation, thats great! Are you planning to continue with the next chapters too?

      1. I’m glad you’re excited for this, but as per usual, the process is slow. 😦 Bear with me – there’s still so much audio dialogue and blurry text to sift through.

  3. Thanks for the new chapter! I’ve been waiting for this one in particular. Looking forward to the complete fan translation! I know that it’s still active, but progress is kinda slow though.

    1. Hi! I’m sorry to say that this translation has been godawful slow, and that’s why the update came out almost a decade(!) later. Here’s to my playthrough not crashing on me!

      1. I was talking about the translation patch actually. As far as I know, cj_iwakura and the guy that did the translation of the first chapter on youtube have been working on it, but there haven’t been uptades in a while. Still, thanks for your hard work and I hope your emulator problems get fixed!

      2. I see, I did see them on YT but I assume they’re trying to find a pro at translating the audio bits or trying to make the text nicer or suited ingame. I’m sure MS WILL get an official translation someday and we don’t have to wait a hundred years. lol

The emulator’s problem is it won’t let me make a save state too 😦 that’s key to the walkthrough/playthrough. You’re welcome and wish me luck!

    1. Long time no see, and I’m SO sorry it’s been an age that chapter 6 came out. As you can see, the incomplete status is because my graphics card doesn’t register the game properly. I have to fix the settings and make it so that the game doesn’t tear the screen or mess up the graphics like it’s doing right now. Your patience for that 8 year wait may be rewarded but it’s a matter of me knowing what I’m doing, which is almost never! 🙂

      1. Why would you apologise? You are doing a free translation. Either way I can record the game for you if you need it. Although there is full playthroughs available online; though I am guessing your issue is with branching dialogues, which means you would need to play the game yourself.
I usually forget to check comments but I could give you my telegram contact or you could make an account on the new forums if you want. (I don’t have many online accounts left lol. This one is just what I use to update the website.)
Did you see they translated a lot of Moonlight Syndrome books?
        http://fftranslations.atspace.co.uk/syn/index.html
I thought you might find that interesting

      2. By the way, which emulator are you using? I used epsxe because “it just wekrs” until a short while ago but I recently found out about Duckstation which is honestly a lot better, I’m not sure if it would fix your issue but you may as well try

    2. I may do this for free, but 8 years is still way too long. Thanks so much for sticking with the blog, even if I visited just to edit chapter 6 every 13+ months. lol

I’m trying to use pcsx. First I tried the ps2 emulator pcsxr and that’s the one that’s ruining the screen. I think I’ll give Duckstation a try. For some reason, I really can’t get the pcsx main interface to stay on the screen and I need it to make those save states. Even pressing F1 didn’t do anything while the game was running.

      http://fftranslations.atspace.co.uk/syn/index.html

      I love this site!!

Thanks for rec’ing it! It clears up a bunch of stuff I couldn’t decipher from the audio bits of the game! I’m going to edit some for clarity 🙂

      1. Don’t worry about it, feel free to ask me if you need any help with anything. Hell I would even send you a tip, the only reason why I’m not doing it now, is because I’ve been investing a lot of money into funding other translations already.
(If you’re interested in Flower, Sun and Rain, you can find those here:

Me and Qish are working with this translator for a bunch of other projects. I’ll link you as I get them if you care. It may not seem like it but expenses for stuff like this pile up pretty fast.)
I took the liberty of updating the Moonlight Syndrome translation page to include a more recent update about your blog, and your ko-fi link, unless you mind, in which case I can just delete it.
        https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/2021/05/25/moonlight-syndrome-translation-efforts/
Do you mind if I inject your translation as subtitles for a youtube playthrough at some point? Obviously I’d give you all the credit, though it won’t do you much good I’m afraid, this is just my small pet project nobody actually visits or cares about lol

      2. These links are great. The Q & A nails the process for Suda51’s atypical writing style. I’ll be reading these and the MS truth files! 😀

It is really generous of you to say this is the best attempt, and I wouldn’t mind having my translation used at all.

The problem is that the earlier attempt was a bit iffy and hit-or-miss at what was actually said, but I can easily screen the translations if you really want to implement them in a playthrough. Just say the word and I’ll email you the edited accurate version. 🙂 Thanks a lot, man.

  4. God, thank you so much for continuing the project! So unbelievably excited to read more! Do you have a ko-fi or anything similar where we could tip you as thanks for your work?

    1. Hi! I never knew how many people were even following this! So it’s nice to get this much feedback even after for so long since it’s an otherwise obscure project. Thanks for leaving a comment! You can look forward to more IF I can get the game up and running properly again.

I do have a ko-fi set up at

      ko-fi.com/iztranslations

but tips would be a kindness. 🙂 I did do this translation for free and sheer curiosity for MS.
